PRE-DEGREE 2015/2016 FINAL EXAMINATIONS


This is to inform staff and especially students of the Pre-degree programme that Lectures for the programme is expected to end on August 10, 2016.  While the final examination as approved by senate will take place between 22nd and 26th August, 2016.

ADMISSION INTO THE NEW DIPLOMA COURSES FOR 2016/2017 ACADEMIC SESSION FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMMES (REGULAR)


Applications are invited from suitable qualified candidates for admission into the following Regular Diploma programmes.  The duration of the Diploma programmes is 18 months.
FACULTY OF ARTS
Diploma in Fine and Applied Arts
A minimum of 4 credits at the WASC, NECO, NABTED which must include English language and Mathematics at not more than two sittings.
FACULTY OF EDUCATION
Diploma in Nursery and Primary School Administration
a)       A minimum of 4 credits in GCE O/L, including English Language and Mathematics at not more than two sittings.
b)      A minimum of four (4) merits in TC II including English Language.

Diploma in Business Management and Entrepreneurship
A minimum of 4 credit passes in the Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), NECO or General Certificate of Education, including English Language, Mathematics and Economics and any other social science subjects obtained in not more than two sittings.
FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES
Diploma in Public Administration
A minimum of 4 O/level credits at not more than two sittings which shall include English Language, Mathematics, Government and one other subject.  The credit passes should be obtained from examinations conducted by approved bodies like WAEC, NECO, NABTED.
Diploma in Criminology and Security Studies
A minimum of 4 credit passes in the Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), NECO or General Certificate of Education, Ordinary level (GCE O/L), TC II or their equivalent, including English Language, Mathematics and two social sciences subjects.
Diploma in Social Work
A minimum of 4 credit passes in the Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), NECO or General Certificate of Education, Ordinary level (GCE O/L), TC II or their equivalent, including English Language, Mathematics and two social sciences subjects.
Diploma in Mass Communication
A minimum of 4 O/L credits at not more than two sittings.  These should include credit in English Language, Mathematics and Literature in English.
Diploma in Accounting

Other Information
Candidates should with the pin for payment access and complete the Delta State University, Abraka 2016/2017. Diploma form on line at http//www.delsuonline.com with their recent coloured passport size photograph scanned to the JPEG format and not more than 20Kb in size.
Candidates are advised to use virtual pin immediately after payment as the pin will be invalid after six (6) hours of generation.

ADMISSION INTO POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES OF THE DELTA STATE UNIVERSITY, ABRAKA, FOR THE 2016/2017 ACADEMIC SESSION

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the under listed Postgraduate programmes leading to the award of Postgraduate Diploma, Professional Masters, Academic Masters and Doctor of Philosophy Degrees of the Delta State University, Abraka.
 
Admission Requirements
 
(A)      General Admission Requirements
i.        A candidate for Postgraduate Studies in Delta State University must have a Degree or Higher National Diploma from recognized Institution. He or she must have also obtained at least five (5) credit passes in WASC, NECO, GCE (Ordinary Level), NABTEB. All applicants must have credit in English and Mathematics (No equivalent).  Please note that there will be no waiver for those seeking admission into Academic Masters and Ph.D.Degree programmes.
ii.        Applications must be backed up with appropriate academic transcripts.
 
iii.       A candidate applying for Ph. D in any programme of the Delta State University, Abraka, must have obtained at least a weighted average score of 60% overall average or CGPA of 3.5.
 
iv.       To qualify for admission into Postgraduate Studies, the requisite qualifications for each programme must have been earned prior to commencement of Programme from either Delta State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Delta State University, Abraka.        
 
(B)      Postgraduate Diploma
i.        Holders of Bachelor’s Degrees in any discipline from the Delta State University or any other University/Institution recognized by Senate with at least “Third Class Honours Degree”
 
Specific Departmental Requirements:

(a)      Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Agricultural Economics, Candidates with HND Certificate must obtain a minimum of Upper Credit in the relevant disciplines.

 
(b)      For Animal Science and Fisheries. Candidates must obtain at least a Third Class HonoursDegree in Agriculture, Animal Science or Fisheries or obtain a minimum of Second Class Lower Division in any of the Biological Sciences. Candidates with the HND certificate should possess at least Upper Credit in the relevant discipline.
 
(c)      For Business Administration and Communication Management, candidates should possess at least a Third Class Honours Degree in any discipline or HND Lower Credit in Business Studies or related fields obtained from any Institution recognized by the Senate of the Delta State University. Abraka.
 
For Banking and Finance, candidates should possess at least a Third class Honours Degree in Banking and Finance or related discipline from this University or any other institution recognized by the Senate or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Banking and Finance not below lower credit level or Professional qualification in Banking and Finance or its equivalent from a recognized institution may be considered.
 
For Marketing, candidates with third class in management from the Delta State University or any other recognized by the Delta State University Senate. A Bachelors Degree with at least Third Class Degree in any field obtained from this University or any other recognized by the Senate of this University or HND at Upper Credit  
 
(C)     Academic Masters Degree (M.A., M.Ed., M. Sc.)
          General Admission Requirements
Candidates must possess Bachelor’s Degree with at least Second Class Honours Lower Division in relevant disciplines of the Delta State University or any other University/Institution recognized by Delta State University Senate.
 
Specific/Departmental Requirements
For Agricultural Economics, holders of a good Honours Degree in relevant areas such as Agronomy or Animal Science are eligible. Candidates must obtain at least a Second Class Honours Degree, Lower Division. Holders of a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Agricultural Economics of the Delta State University or any other institutions recognized by Senate at credit level can also apply.
 
For Animal Science and Fisheries, candidates should possess a good Honours Degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division in Agriculture, Animal Science, Fisheries, Zoology, Biochemistry or Human Nutrition or Postgraduate Diploma in Animal Science or Fisheries or in a related field at credit level..
 
For Master of Arts (M.A.) History, candidates with Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine and Applied Arts, Bachelor of Education Degree in Fine and Applied Arts and Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, Sociology or Anthropology are eligible. Such candidates should obtain a minimum of Second Class Honours Degree, Lower Division.
 
For M.Sc. Biochemistry, candidates should possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree Lower Division in Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Physiology or Zoology from the Delta State University, Abraka, or any other Institution recognized by Senate.
 
For M. Sc. Physics, candidates must be a graduate of Delta State University or any other recognized University with at least a Second Class honours (Lower) (ii) B. Sc. Degree in Physics Education with at least Second Class Lower Division (iii) Engineering or other related areas.
 
For Animal and Environmental Biology, holders of at least a Second Class Honours Degree Lower Division in Zoology, obtained from Delta State University, Abraka, or any other Institution recognized by the Senate of Delta State University, Abraka, are eligible for admission.
 
For Master of Science Degree in Chemistry, holders of first Degree obtained from Delta State University, Abraka, or any recognized Institution by Senate, with at least Second Class Degree Lower Division in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry or Biochemistry are eligible for admission. Candidates with B.Sc. (Ed.) Chemistry or Pharmacy with at least may be considered for admission.
 
For Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Sociology, candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with at least Second Class Honours lower division of the Delta State University, Abraka, or other Universities recognized by Senate. Candidates with MILR of Delta State University may be considered.
 
For Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Geography and Regional Planning, candidates must possess a good honours Degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division in Geography or related discipline from Delta State University, Abraka, or other Universities recognized by Senate.
 
For Master in Sports Management, a First Degree in Physical and Health Education, Sociology, Business Administration, Law, Psychology, Mass Communication or Political Science may be considered for admission.
 
For M.A. History, candidate must be holder of Bachelor of Arts Degree in History of the Delta State University or other Universities recognized by Senate, provided they also satisfy the University matriculation requirements. Candidates whose Bachelor’s Degrees are in related disciplines such as Religious Studies, Political Science, Archaeology, Education with History, or Social Studies and Political Science as teaching subject, may be admitted.
 
For M.A. Theatre Arts, candidate must be holder of B.A. or B.F.A. in Theatre Arts with at least Second Class Honours Lower Division or Third Class Honours Degree with Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Theatre Arts from the Delta State University or any other University recognized by the Senate.
Candidates who hold B.A. English with specialization in Literature, Bachelor’s Degrees in Mass Communication, Communication Arts, Music, English and Literary Studies (with a specialization in Literature) and Fine and Applied Arts, who also have Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Theatre Arts, may be considered.
For M.A French (French Language, Literature in French and Translation).
Applicants for admission into the M.A. Degree programme in French Language must possess a B.A. Degree in French with at least Second Class Honours Lower division from Delta State University or any other University recognized by the Senate.
 
(D)     PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMMES:
Master in Energy and Petroleum Economics (MEPE) and Master in Communication Management (MCM).
 
Candidates must possess a minimum of Third Class Honours Degree, in any discipline from Delta State University or other Universities recognized by Senate or Higher National Diploma (HND) of not less than lower credit with years of experience.
 
For MASTER IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA)
Candidates with at least Second Class Honours, Lower Division will be considered candidates with HND Upper Credit only in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics or Marketing will be considered for admission.
 
 
For the Master in Communication Management (MCM), candidates should possess at least a second class honours Degree in Mass Communication or related disciplines.
 
(E)      Ph.D. Programmes
          General Admission Requirements
Candidates with relevant academic Masters Degrees from the Delta State University, Abraka or other Universities recognized by the Senate of the University, and must have scored at least a Cumulative average of 60% in their final Masters Degree to qualify for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy Programme.
 
(a)      Ph.D. History
Candidates for the Ph.D. must be holders of the Master of Arts (M.A.) Degrees in History, International Relations or International Studies. Such candidates must have obtained a minimum of 60% pass mark at the Master’s level.
 
(b)      Ph.D. Studio Art
Candidates for the Ph.D. must be holders of M.A., MFA, M.Tech. (Ind. Design) in Painting, Sculpture, Textiles, Graphics, Ceramics.
 
(c)      Ph.D. (Political Science, Sociology) - Social Sciences.
Candidates must possess a good Masters Degree of not less than 60% average in the relevant department of this University or any other institutions recognized by Senate.
 
(d)      Ph.D. Theatre Arts
1.       Candidates with a good M.A. Degree in Theatre Arts – not less than 60% average of Delta State University or any other University recognized by Senate are eligible for admission, provided they also satisfy the University matriculation requirements.
